How engagement rate is calculated
Engagement rate measures how actively your audience interacts with your content relative to your follower count, using the formula (likes + comments) / followers x 100. It's one of the clearest signals of whether your audience is genuinely engaged, versus just large.
Benchmarks vary a lot by platform and niche - a rate that's "good" for a 500K-follower account can look different from what's "good" for a 5K-follower account, since smaller accounts often see proportionally higher engagement.
What's a good engagement rate?
Generally, 1-3% is average, 3-6% is good, and above 6% is excellent - though this varies by platform and audience size.
Why isn't my rate higher with lots of followers?
